A Worthy Investment

When first starting out, many people make the mistake of buying too basic an instrument that won’t cater for their developing needs as a musician. For adult beginners in particular, I always recommend starting out on a good quality acoustic student violin that will guarantee to see you through to the next level of playing and serve as a quality investment.

The McNeela Student Violin Set is perfect for beginners. This comprehensive set is fully kitted out with violin, carbon fibre bow, strings, rosin and of course, a protective case. In other words, it’s got everything you need to get started. Most importantly however, this full sized student violin is guaranteed to keep you playing.

Quality Sound

Made from quality tonewood and fitted with quality strings, the McNeela Student Violin produces a bright, warm tone that’s perfect for playing Irish music or classical music.

The quality of the strings is one of the factors that has the greatest impact on the sound any violin produces. The playability, sound and quality of a student violin all depend on the strings that it’s fitted with.

We only use the best quality strings for our instruments, including those designed for beginner musicians. We want to enable you to sound good, right from your very first note.

What's The Difference Between A Fiddle & A Violin?

The fiddle and violin are the same instrument. Fiddle and violin are two terms used to describe the smallest member of the string family. Which term you use typically depends on which style of music you are playing.

Most traditional Irish musicians will refer to their instrument as a fiddle for example, as do folk musicians from a number of other cultures. Bluegrass, country and sometimes jazz musicians also refer to their instruments as fiddles. In classical music however , it is strictly referred to as a violin.

As there can be huge stylistic differences in how the fiddle and violin are played, musicians may prefer to have their instruments set up differently, depending on which style they are playing. Fiddle players may prefer a flatter bridge for example, to facilitate double stops and drones.
