Irish Vs Greek Bouzoukis

The McNeela Premium Irish Bouzouki is an Irish-style, flat-back bouzouki tuned GDAD, with string pairs tuned in unison for a clear, balanced sound.

There are 3 main differences between Irish and Greek bouzoukis: the shape of the body, the number of frets, and the tuning. Irish bouzoukis have a shallow, flat back with just 24 frets, and pairs of strings tuned in unison to GDAE or GDAD.

Greek ones have a larger, rounded back, around 27 frets, and are tuned to octave intervals with the standard tuning of CFAD.

Our Irish bouzouki string pairs are tuned in unison to GDAD, which is the most common tuning for Irish trad.

The combination of this particular tuning, the flat back and floating bridge give this bouzouki its distinctive tone and sound.
