The design has been adapted to give the characteristics sought after by players of Irish Traditional Music.

Your flute comes with its own robust hard case which is foam-lined on the inside to protect the instrument(s) inside. This acts as a shock absorber to help shield your flute from any of those scratches or blemishes you get. And there’s space inside for that spare tin whistle we know many of you like to travel with.
“Very nice flute! Love the tone and the tuning of it!” - José L, USA

A normal fully keyed flute made from African Blackwood would cost well over €2,000 so our version is great value!
This flute must be tried to appreciate its gorgeous tones and great intonation and is perfect for those wishing to test the keyed flute waters; we offer a 30 day trial wherein you can send it back to us for a full refund if you’re not 100% satisfied.

Delrin® is a tough, lightweight and durable acetal polymer with inherent low friction, low wear, low noise, low moisture pick-up and excellent spring back properties and makes for an excellent low maintenance flute as it is not subject to cracks due to dryness or stress at the joints.
This Delrin® flute is made to play and sound as closely as possible to the Irish wooden flute. The traditional elliptical embouchure is standard and provides a wide range of tonal flexibility.
“My Delrin keyed Irish flute is so much more friendly than a wooden flute. I am loving the keys, also using the Masterclass and learning a great deal. Really love this flute!" - Sheila, Ireland

The McNeela Delrin Keyed Flute
I have the Lon Dubh and have had it for around three years. I have loved it and wanted a keyed version. I thought the tone would be similar, basically the same instrument plus keys. I find this one much better and enjoyable to play. The low D rings very well and the tone I find easier to keep consistent. I prefer this one over the Lon Dubh not just because of the keys (which I rarely use), but because it sounds better and is a better experience. The Lon Dubh had some air leaking from poor cork seals, I took it to the shop and they were able to fix it. This one has string instead of cork, some of the connections are hard to disconnect and because of that a lot of the times I keep it connected. One of the connections doesn’t connect all the way (but doesn’t seem to leak) and has come out during playing. When it came apart I was able to put it back together mid tune before the next phrase so no big deal. I suspect I’ll have to take it in at some point to help with these issues but it’s not a game changer. Overall dispute those issues I am very happy with this instrument. I believe my connection issues can be solved and don’t effect the tone. Some on the internet have said that the done sounds “plastic” or synthetic compared to wood, I can somewhat agree but it’s ease of play, the fact that you don’t have to worry about caring for it as much, and the consistency in tone that it gives you all make up for any “synthetic” sound quality it has. It doesn’t exact sound like wood, but it still sounds beautiful and very professional and worth performing with in any setting.

The McNeela Delrin Keyed Flute (B Stock)
I consider the value for money to be very respectable at the "Stock B" price I paid for this 6-keyed Delrin flute. I wouldn't have bought it at the regular price, as the key quality isn't exceptional and the sound in the upper register is too bright. On the other hand, the low notes are very nice. All in all, for a beginner wanting to try out a keyed flute, buying this "Stock B" model is a pretty good investment.

The McNeela Delrin Keyed Flute

The McNeela Delrin Keyed Flute
I actually showed up at McNeela's in person to try out some flutes, as i had decided that what I really wanted was a keyed flute. But I also voiced my interest in any Delrin flutes that the company might have on hand. What was produced for me was this, a Derin keyed flute. Now, I've played (and often owned) flutes by great makers, so I'm not easy to please. I must say I fell instantly in love with this instrument. For a larger, very solid instrument it filled with delicate ease, producing a rich, strong and responsive tone, with easy intonation and a great buzz in the low end. all at a very reasonable price. This flute is a wonder, and being of Delrin construction will probably last decades, regardless of my travels through varying temperatures and humidities. This is one good flute. It's been a mainstay for two years now, memories and music, but no signs of wear! And GREAT tone!
