Description
The Irish Cocuswood Flute with Foam-Lined Case
“Beautiful quality and sound.” - Jerome K.
This Irish flute is an entry-level flute for beginner and intermediate players that looks and feels like it's been made specially for you.
It's made from cocuswood, which was one of the most highly prized tonewoods of the 19th century.
Cocuswood is the only tonewood that’s comparable with African blackwood, and it gives you a louder, brighter and more focused tone, together with that full, rich, woody sound.
Most importantly of all, you get a really impressive low D.
This is a perfectly weighted, beautifully made, hand crafted wooden Irish flute that looks and feels like it costs considerably more.
What’s more, it comes with its own padded foam-lined flute case.
Special Offer! Order today and get 3 months’ FREE access to Tom Doorley’s complete beginner flute course (see below).
Limited Stock: Order the Irish Cocuswood Flute now and get a FREE Wild Irish Whistle and free Priority shipping worldwide.

The Irish Cocuswood Flute with Foam-Lined Case
Having played a silver symphonic flute for a decade, and having recently discovered a liking to Irish tradition music, I purchased the Irish Cocuswood flute and The Irish Flute Book by my favorite Irish flute musician, Fintan Vallely . I love the tone and feel and look; it’s a gorgeous instrument. I really enjoyed learning how to play it and getting the handle of it. However, after having spent a few months learning it, I found that it’s just too physically demanding on my hands (the same reason I can’t play a stringed guitar for long).
But! To my surprise, McNeala Music threw in a free Wild tin whistle in D! It was my first introduction to the tin whistle, and it’s a really good tin whistle. I then aquatinted myself to the various tin whistles and manufacturers and their tones, and I think the Wild tin whistle is about my favorite tone (though i do have another on my list i want to purchase). The timbre on this tin whistle is excellent. It’s sound can carry far enough. It’s the most portable and durable instrument i've ever had, just slightly peaking out of my small purse as I carry it everywhere. It’s so much fun to learn and play the songs on thesession.com. Would be fun to join in on a local Irish session someday.
I just wanted to say, thank you all at McNeela for including a free tin whistle. I might have just walked away from playing Irish music if it hadn’t been included. I can’t really play the wood flute (nothing wrong with it, it’s great), but i’m sure i can find a musician who can give it some love.

The Irish Cocuswood Flute with Foam-Lined Case
Incredible sounding flute, beautiful wooden box,
Delivery was prompt and minor delivery issue was entirely my own fault… flute had minor visual blemish (hairline crack on headpiece ) on arrival and a few degrees misalignment on the bottom portion. neither of these affect the feel, playability or sound of the instrument and at few feet distance neither are visible… Overall I am very happy with the flute, the wild whistle is beautiful, light weight and good for practicing tunes, in spare moments if you have the breath control to play quietly. The free lessons are well put together and comprehensive. I strongly recommend this package to anyone serious about picking up the flute!

The Irish Cocuswood Flute with Foam-Lined Case
The flute is very attractive looking and actually has a very nice tone. However, the tuning is quite bad. The Ds are very sharp and the Cs and F#s are very low. The difference between the middle D and adjacent the C# is almost a whole tone! The metal ring around the head joint also appears to be wearing away already and the foot joint seems a bit wobbly. It was in the sale though so maybe that’s why…
The delivery was quick

Hi Josh,
Sorry to hear about the tuning issues, we have sent another flute and I personally checked the tuning. Please let us know how you get on with it.

The Irish Cocuswood Flute with Foam-Lined Case
The quality is okay, but the Intonation is weak.
Reply:
Hi Daniel, do keep in mind wooden flutes respond differently than metal or plastic ones. With a light, steady airstream the tuning sits right where it should. If it still doesn’t meet your expectations, you’re covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee. Just email service@mcneelamusic.com to start the process.
